Draft Suffolk Local Nature Recovery Strategy Supporting Authority Consultation

The Environment Act 2021 requires the preparation of Local Nature Recovery Strategies to identify opportunities and priorities for nature restoration at the local level. Suffolk County Council is the designated ‘responsible authority’ leading on preparation of the Suffolk Local Nature Recovery Strategy, with Ipswich Borough Council a defined ‘supporting authority’.

Suffolk County Council is required to seek the approval of all supporting authorities before it may consult the public about the Draft Suffolk Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Ipswich Borough Council has a period of 28 days, prescribed by regulations, in which to respond. This 28 day period ends on 11 February 2025.

Suffolk County Council is leading on preparation of the Suffolk Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Ipswich Borough Council has participated via a ‘Planning Theme Group’ and provided mapped data. The report seeks approval of Ipswich Borough Council’s formal response to the Draft Suffolk Local Nature Recovery Strategy to be submitted within the prescribed timescale, prior to Suffolk County Council conducting public consultation.
