OD/21/132 Cremator Hearth Repairs

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Ipswich Borough Council has 2 full time working cremators that are in service at least 5 days a week.

The cremators were installed in 2011 by a company called ATI that no longer trade in the UK.

Following routine inspections, repairs have become apparent to replace cracked hearth tiles and slabs within the cremators. These are a bespoke item which could be replicated, but IBC has received a quote from the original manufacturer Capital Refractories Ltd.

One additional quotation has been received but the quote from Capital Refractories for £16,800 represents the best value and provides the swiftest route to repair therefore minimising risk to the cremation service. As a result the decision to award the contract to Capital Refractories has been exempted from Contract Standing Orders on the basis that it is economically in the best interests of the Council and minimises risk of loss of service.

The works will be funded from existing budgetary provision.

Decision:

To exempt these works from Contract Standing Orders and award the works to Capital Refractories Ltd.

Reason:

To complete essential works by a competent contractor that has a complete understanding of the ATI system and minimise service disruption.
