OD/21/98 Demolition of Buildings at Corporation Farm

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Ipswich Borough Council is required to undertake demolition works at Corporation Farm, in line with Health and Safety Guidance, and Dangerous Structures, Building Act 1984 section 77.

IBC has previously engaged a consultant to carry an inspection of the site, which determined that two of the outbuildings, are structurally unsafe.

The demolition works are now fundamental to help make the site safe and secure, before a development strategy can be implemented.

A quote has been provided by Clarke Demolition Company Limited for £11,707.22 which covers the careful take down, wrapping and storage of materials on pallets, as these are buildings that can be re-erected. The

project team consider this to be good value for money, and the work would be funded from existing capital budgets.

A decision has been made to exempt the appointment from market testing under Contract Standing Orders due to the severity of the structurally compromised buildings, and immediate danger presented to the public, (following numerous reports of trespass and vandalism).

Demolition works will be undertaken in February 2022.

Decision:

To exempt the contract award from Contract Standing Orders and award the work to CDC Demolition.

Reason:

To enable works to progress quickly to reduce the Health and Safety risk.
