As part of its wider objectives to encourage the usage of public transport, the Council provides, in its own right, a number of bus shelters in various locations across Ipswich and also provides, on behalf of Suffolk
County Council, bus stops, bus stop clearway restrictions and associated infrastructure. The Council receives a number of requests for the provision of new bus shelters and holds a waiting list of such sites.
In furtherance of the above objectives, the Council has now decided to provide a new bus shelter at the location listed below, including an extension to the area of hardstanding:
1. Nacton Road (inbound), outside 500/502 (opposite junction with Lindbergh Road) – provision of new bus shelter with extension to area of hardstanding.
Additionally, the Council owns an existing bus shelter located outside 129 Lindbergh Road. This bus stop has not been in use for some time and so it has also been decided to relocate this bus shelter to the following bus stop where there has been a request for the provision of a bus shelter:
2. Ravenswood Avenue (outbound), adjacent to rear of The Raven PH – provision of bus shelter.
The main alternative option would be not to provide the bus shelters. However, this would be contrary to the Council’s public transport objectives and in respect of the bus shelter at the Lindbergh Road site, relocating it enables it to be of use to the public.
In accordance with the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1953, to install a new bus shelter with associated infrastructure at the bus stop outside 500/502 Nacton Road and to relocate the existing bus shelter from outside 129 Lindbergh Road to the bus stop on Ravenswood Avenue adjacent to the rear of The Raven PH.
Reason:
To encourage the use of public transport and to relocate one bus shelter to enable it to be used.
