Purpose:

The Ipswich Museums Collections Working Group has recommended to Ipswich Borough Council that the following acquisitions are agreed.

 

1. ‘Across the river in the trees’ - Hayley Field (Colour Maps)

The set of colour maps are a document of landscape and the river Deben by a female artist.

Method of acquisition: Donation

 

2. ‘Shingle Street’- Julia Heseltine

A painting of the hamlet of Shingle Street based on the myth that the North Sea was set ablaze in the

autumn of 1940 to ward off invaders.

Method of acquisition: Purchase £3,000

Funding of acquisition: £1000 already donated from Philip Kelleway

£2000 from the Friends of Ipswich Museums

 

3. Rendlesham Collection of Anglo-Saxon archaeology

Approx. 700 objects that consist of coins, items of jewellery, warrior equipment and other Anglo-Saxon finds

from the palace site at Rendlesham.

Method of acquisition: Purchase £13,352

Funding of acquisition: £6,676 ACE/V&A Purchase Grant Fund

£4,676 Friends of Ipswich Museums

£2,000 Sutton Hoo Society

Decision:

The decision made is to agree the acquisition of the objects as detailed above subject to funding being provided as described.

 

Reason:

To formally acquire the recommended items for inclusion in the Ipswich Museums collection.
