The Council has the power, via a civil parking enforcement agency agreement with Suffolk County Council, to install or remove traffic signs relating to civil parking functions within the Borough of Ipswich, including the power to install or remove posts to which such signs may be attached. The Council has voluntarily chosen to exercise this power and as such has carried out a procurement exercise for the supply, installation and removal of traffic sign posts, principally within the highway. This may also cover doing the
same in respect of posts for bus stops where required, where the Council also has a separate power to act on behalf of the County Council.
Having completed the procurement exercise, it has been decided to award a non-exclusive contract to SLB Roads Ltd for the supply, installation and removal of traffic sign posts (including the installation, alteration or removal of pre-supplied traffic signs where required) for a 36 month period with an option to extend for a further two periods of 12 months each. This is on the basis that SLB Roads Ltd provided the most economically advantageous bid for this function of all of those submitted that met the Council’s minimum requirements. The value of this contract is estimated at £70,000 over the contract period.
