Ipswich Borough Council requires to urgently appoint a contractor to the replace a failed cooling coil on the cremator system at Ipswich Crematorium.
A detailed quotation for the measuring and construction of a cooling coil (including removal & disposal of the failed coil and installation of new & dosing of the system) was sought from MFD Ductwork Installations Ltd.
The quote received is for £30,123.00.
A decision to waive contract standing orders and direct award to MFD Ductwork Installations Ltd has been made, for environmental, sourcing & operational reasons. MFD Ductwork Installations Ltd are the only supplier that can provide the bespoke cooling coil fabrications locally and within the timescales required.
If the exemption from Contract standing orders had not been made, the works would not be undertaken in time, resulting in the site being in breach of environmental regulations during the cremation process, as well as risk to the system and building.
To waive contract standing orders as there is only one potential provider and place the order for the new bespoke cremator cooling coil.
Reason:
To enable the cremators to resume running on the abatement system, meeting environmental and safe operating objectives.
