The Council owns and operates a number of public car parks in Ipswich, including Upper Orwell Street North Car Park, Upper Barclay Street, Ipswich IP4 1HU.
The council had previously approved a request from Orbis Protect to locate a portacabin security office in the corner of the car park. A security guard will be based on site to patrol the vacant former Co-Op store at 46-48 Carr Street, Ipswich.
The office and accompanying security vehicle already have permission to occupy 3 parking bays between Thursday 16th February 2023 and Thursday 16th March 2023. Orbis Protect have paid for the lost income of the bays and the relevant suspension fee.
Orbis have requested to extend the period by a further 8 days until Friday 24 March 2023.
Reports of social behaviour in the car park dramatically reduce when the unit is on site which is beneficial to our customers.
To utilise the powers within the Ipswich Borough Council (Off-Street Parking Places) Order 2022 to suspend 3 bays in Upper Orwell Street North Car Park between Friday 17th March 2023 and Friday 24th March 2023.
Reason:
To accommodate a temporary security guard office.
