Purpose:

Ipswich Borough Council operates Northgate Sports Centre which has athletics track and field facilities which includes a pole vault and high jump and is used by two athletics clubs. As part of this equipment, it needs specialist mats to enable participants to use the equipment safely. The current mats are now worn and unsafe to use.

Decision:

A competitive procurement was run to purchase a new pole vault mat and high jump mat but there were no tenders submitted. As a result, the Council went to market and requested 3 quotes and the best quote across the two pieces of equipment was selected. As a result, it was decided to purchase the pole vault and high jump mat from Athletic Direct for a total cost of £17,366.

 

Reason: To provide a new pole vault and high jump mat to replace the existing mats which are now worn and unsafe to use.
