OD/22/59 Cromwell Square Car Park Temporary Closure

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

This decision has been amended as a result of the Bank Holiday for the Funeral of HM the Queen. The amendment relates solely to the date of the second closure, which is now on 21st September.

The Council is responsible for the management of on-street paid for parking places in Ipswich on behalf of Suffolk County Council who are the Traffic Authority. This includes the parking place (‘car park’) at Cromwell Square, Ipswich, IP1 1TR.

Screen Suffolk (a production company) requested to exclusively hire the Cromwell Square car park for filming, and a decision has been made to temporarily close the car park on Wednesday 31st August 2022 and Wednesday 21st September 2022 (was previously Monday 19th September 2022).

Signage will be placed to inform users of the car park of the temporary closure both when it is closed and in advance of the closure and alternative public parking is available nearby. This will help to minimise any inconvenience to the public. Screen Suffolk will be charged for the loss of income and a suspension fee.

The main alternative would be to not to close the car  park, but the filming event would always portray positive image of the local area and Ipswich.

Decision:

To utilise the powers within the Suffolk County Council (Borough of Ipswich)  (Stopping, Waiting and Loading Prohibitions and Restrictions and On-Street Parking Places) (Consolidation) Order 2019 (as amended) to close the Cromwell Square parking place for a temporary period (expected to be Wednesday 31st August 2022 and Wednesday 21st September 2022) to allow for the filming event to be carried in the car park.
