The report requests approval from the Executive to adopt the Town Centre and Waterfront Public Realm Strategy Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).
The SPD identifies a strategy for the enhancement of public spaces within Ipswich town centre, including the Waterfront. This includes streets, squares, quaysides, pedestrian spaces and green spaces. The strategy recommends a list of priority projects based on criteria such as cost and deliverability, and sets out some design parameters for the priority projects (though it does not provide detailed designs). Finally, it provides design guidance for the key elements of good public realm design, such as choice of paving, street furniture design and choice of street trees. It will support the implementation of adopted Ipswich Core Strategy policies DM5 and CS2, and Ipswich Vision.
