This loan request is for a temporary exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery entitled ‘Radical Landscapes: Pre-Raphaelites and their French Contemporaries’. This is the first occasion on which we have been approached by Wolverhampton for a loan and the gallery is highly regarded both regionally and nationally, and acknowledged as having an innovative, high-quality programme of exhibitions.
The exhibition will look at the effects of increased leisure and tourism on landscape painting after the spread of the railways, the influence of photography, and changing relationships with the natural landscape and religious belief resulting from new scientific understanding.
This painting has not been out on loan since January 2014 and is currently in store. It is not required for display in Ipswich during the period in question. There are no conservation issues.
