The Council bought a former Care Home at Sidegate Lane, Ipswich and and reconfigured the accommodation specifically for use as temporary accommodation for homeless households. The building work has now been completed and the facility is partially occupied. Before the facility can be fully occupied, there is a requirement to procure a staff alarm system, that can locate and provide assistance to an officer anywhere in the building or grounds, if activated. It is expected that the contract value is up to £35,000.
An exemption has been approved under section 3.2 of Contract Standing Orders to allow two expressions of interest to be sought rather than requiring a full tender process to be undertaken as it is “necessary as a matter of urgency and a delay would be likely to lead to financial loss”.
There is a need to get the remaining wing occupied as soon as possible as the cost of accommodating the 12 people, who would be accommodated in East Villa, in B&B properties is costing the Council £2,100 per week.
