OD/19/49 Highways Agency Agreement

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The Council carries out certain highways functions on behalf of Suffolk County Council (SCC), principally cutting grass verges, treating weeds, arboricultural services, gritting certain footways during adverse winter weather and providing an out of hours call handling service. The Council receives a fee for the provision of these services, but also, at its own cost, undertakes certain other highways functions, principally the provision of bus stops, bus stop clearway restrictions, ‘sitting out’ licences and boundary signs.

The legal powers to exercise these functions are provided to the Council by virtue of a highways agency agreement with SCC made under the provisions of the Local Government Acts 1972 and 2000 and The Local Authorities (Arrangements for the Discharge of Functions) (England) Regulations 2000 (as amended). A separate but related Service Level Agreement sets the required standards and fees for the services for which SCC pays the Council.

Decision:

It has been decided to renew both the highways agency agreement and the service level agreement until 31st March 2020.
