OD/18/12 William House Boiler replacements

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The existing heating boilers at William House sheltered scheme are estimated to be 30 years old and have exceeded their anticipated replacement date. Whilst the heating plant at this William House is still operational, the existing boilers are not fuel efficient and an upgrade to condensing A rated boilers will help to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Decision:

Three competitive quotations were requested from three local commercial heating replacement contractors. It has been decided to accept the most competitive quotation received, which was for the value of £33,817.00 from DPL Mechanical & Electrical contractors. The two other quotations rejected on cost were for the values of £37,955.00 & £48,937.23. All three quoted works are for the same heating plant i.e. three 100kW Worcester Bosch boilers and associated plant.

The option to overhaul the existing boilers was considered but given that replacing components of the existing boiler plant would not be economical, the above replacement option is seen as the only viable solution.
