In order to promote the economy of the town centre in the run up to Christmas, and given that the Council’s Crown short-stay car park will still be partially closed during this period whilst a new multi-storey car park is constructed.
The cost for this is £6,600 and will be arranged directly with the operator of the service, First Eastern Counties Buses Ltd, via a service subsidy agreement made under the provisions of the Transport Act 1985 and The Service Subsidy Agreements (Tendering) (England) Regulations 2002 (both as amended). Suffolk County Council (SCC) are funding the provision of the service on late night shopping Thursdays covering the same period. There is an associated cost of £1,305 for opening and closing the two Park & Ride sites and cleaning the site buildings, which is being arranged via SCC.
It has been decided to fund the provision of the Ipswich Park & Ride service (Service 800) on Sundays for the 6 Sundays before Christmas which will cover the period from when the Christmas lights are switched on. The service will operate on a 20 minute frequency from 9am to 5pm between the two Park & Ride sites.
