OD-17-20 Street Lighting Upgrades 2017/2018

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

An officer decision has now been made to upgrade street lights in the following locations at an estimated cost of £16,355. This will have the benefit of providing better quality lighting and reduced running costs as modern street lights are more energy efficient. The provision of street lighting has an important effect in preventing crime and disorder. Ward councillors will be informed of the upgrades that are taking place in their area. The upgrades will be at the following locations with the IBC ward shown in brackets, but in some locations it may be the case that only some of the existing street lights will be upgraded:

* Cobbold Mews (ST. MARGARET’S)

* Bridleway 12 adjacent to Henniker Road (WHITEHOUSE)

* North Hill Road (ALEXANDRA).

The street lighting works at Cobbold Mews were originally to be carried out as part of the 2016/2017 programme (as per the officer decision form dated 24/2/2017) but these were substituted by SCC for street lighting works to the IBC street lights on footpath no. 301 from Dorset Close to Colchester Road (also in St. Margaret’s ward) owing to problems encountered at the time in attempting to do the street lighting works at Cobbold Mews, which have now been resolved. The amount quoted above includes the Dorset Close footpath street lighting works but SCC will now carry out the Cobbold Mews street lighting works.

To exercise the Council’s powers under the Public Health Acts 1875 and 1961 to replace and upgrade some or all of the Council’s street lighting stock at the locations listed in this form.
