Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

This decision relates to three current loan requests from the following:

Norfolk Museums Service have requested an extension to a current loan of the Replica Head of Claudius which was originally approved for a three-year period in 2013. The replica object is currently on display in the Boudica gallery at Norwich Castle Museum and it is proposed that it remain on loan. It will not be required for exhibition in Ipswich during the proposed three-year extension. An inspection visit will be arranged to check on the condition of the object. This loan extension has been approved.

The second request is from a PhD student at the University of Huddersfield for access to thirty Roman coins from The Rendlesham Collection as part of a research project assessing the condition of Roman coins from the ploughsoil and correlating this with historic land use and soil conditions on sites. This research forms part of the wider Rendlesham project which the Museum Service has been supporting for several years. The coins will be studied using XRF and X-Ray analysis. Satisfactory information has been provided regarding insurance and security arrangements. The loan is for a maximum period of six months and none of these items will be required for exhibition during this period. This loan has been approved.

The third request is from Suffolk Archaeology Service for access to 350 objects from The Rendlesham Collection as part of the preparation of the final publication of the Rendlesham project. The objects are required for illustration. Satisfactory information has been provided regarding insurance and security arrangements. The loan is for a maximum period of six months and none of these items will be required for exhibition during this period. This loan has been approved.
