The Ipswich Entrepreneur Programme is a course for entrepreneurs who want to launch and monetise their business ideas. It is aimed at developing business and social enterprise start-ups and improving the business survival rate in Ipswich. The courses enable students to develop key skills to enable them to successfully run and develop their own enterprise including; business planning, finance, building a website, marketing, sales and how to establish a brand.
Ipswich Entrepreneurs supports the IBC Economic Strategy and its Implementation Plan’s focus on jobs and skills in Ipswich.
There have been 2 previous cohorts supporting 33 entrepreneurs, resulting in successful business and social enterprise start-ups, growth of fledgling businesses and increased employment. Ipswich Borough Council contributed funding to both previous cohorts.
There is funding in the budget for this activity to be commissioned.
IBC will invest £24,000 over twelve months (from September 2016) to the Eastern Enterprise Hub to deliver a structured learning programme to 18 entrepreneurs. The course will commence in September 2016, the action learning sets will run until February 2017 with final evaluations and student assessments in September 2017.
This investment will be secured and controlled via a contract between Ipswich Borough Council and the Eastern Enterprise Hub.
The Chief Executive has waived Contract Standing Orders under Part 4 Section 9 3.2 – goods or materials are available only as proprietary or patented articles from one contractor or supplier, and for which there is no reasonable satisfactory alternative.
Reason for Recommendation
The programme has been delivered successfully in previous years, resulting in start-ups, growth of fledgling businesses and increased employment. There is a local demand for the programme which is unique to Ipswich, offering an innovative approach to developing and growing Ipswich businesses and entrepreneurial networks.
