OD/16/01 Temporary removal of stored collections (furniture) from Christchurch Mansion Store to enable capital works

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Temporarily remove stored furniture from Christchurch Mansion attic store to enable capital work. The items will be removed for a maximum period of May 2016 – Jan 2017.

The items of furniture will be removed and stored by Pooleys removals at a cost of £5,040. The reasons for this decision are as follows:

·         Storing the furniture separately away from the main collections within Christchurch Mansion is the most cost effective option.

·         Equivalent local storage is not available. Pooleys has the required capacity.

·         Pooleys have extensive experience of handling Ipswich Museums collections and have therefore proven to be competent.

CIMS will be responsible for documenting all collections and recording their movement. It will also oversee all handling and transportation to ensure that it is carried out with minimal risk to the collections and maximum security.

Decision: To approve the temporary removal and storage of furniture from CCM to Pooleys specialist store.

Reason: To facilitate the progression of the Main Contract that is already appointed to repair and upgrade the Christchurch Mansion.
