OD/15/42 Wolsey Art Gallery temporary closure

Decision Maker: Officer Decision

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

In preparation for the upcoming exhibition of Leonard Squirrel works, the Wolsey Art Gallery will need to be temporarily closed between Tuesday 2 and Friday 12 February. It will reopen to visitors on Saturday 13 February at 10am. This exhibition includes 4 new acquisitions purchased by IBC and works from our existing collection.

The temporary gallery closure is required for the following reasons:

1.    The closure of the gallery is required to meet the loan agreements we have with Tate and the private individuals who are collecting artworks lent for the previous Constable & Freud Exhibition. Closure ensures the security of the artworks and the museum staff at this time.

2.    A number of artworks in the Ipswich Borough Councils collections will need to be rehung elsewhere in the gallery. Closure of the gallery will ensure the security of the artworks and museum staff at this time.

3.    Design features will be added to the gallery as part of this display. Closure of the gallery enables the installation of the design features to be delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

4.    During the second week of closure the new security door to the Wolsey Art Gallery will be installed.
