Maintenance and Contracts have a kitchen supply contract for replacing kitchens in void properties. This decision results in kitchens of the same type being installed at both void stage and during the planned kitchen and bathroom replacement programme. This is advantageous as it reduces the range of future replacement parts that need to be held in stock. Maintenance and Contracts carried out an open procurement process using Suffolk e-sourcing for the supply of kitchen units. These are fitted by in-house trade teams to maintain the Council’s housing stock.
An order was placed to accept the most advantageous tender in the sum of £65,000 covering the entire contract period, which runs from January 2nd 2015 to 31st March 2016. This amount is within the existing budget.
The possibility of using a range of suppliers was considered and four suppliers were selected to bid as part of an open tender process. The successful supplier provided the most advantageous tender and in addition was able to demonstrate they could supply kitchens of the desired quality within the timescales required.
This allows the service to meet stringent deadlines facilitating the available of housing for new tenants as well as maintaining the Council’s rental income.
