Ipswich Borough Council is undertaking improvement works along Alderman Canal Local Nature Reserve, to reduce the smell caused by organic matter breakdown within the water. To benefit the Bibb Way redevelopment and surrounding residential areas.
The canal is currently a long linear pond with no substantive flows of water. The lack of water input combined with very high nutrient levels in the pond has resulted an unpleasant smell (hydrogen sulphide).
A programme of selective tree removal along the Canal banks is taking place this winter to help address this issue as well as helping to allow more light to reach the Canal to help water quality and wildlife.
To enable delivery, quotes were obtained from an approved supplier list, with all companies contacted.
The most competitive quote was received from MB Trees for the total value of £21,950.
To appoint MB Trees.
