Library homePetitions How we respond to Petitions
The Petitions Scheme Ipswich Borough Council adopted a new Petitions scheme on 30th June 2010 which set out how we will respond to any petitions recieved, whether paper or electronic. Our response to a petition will depend on what it asks for and the number of signatures received. The Council's signature thresholds for petitions are listed below: 1) If there are more than 10 signatures the petition will be considered by the relevant Executive Portfolio Holder, who may decide a response or who may decide to refer the petition to an Executive meeting; 2) 500 petition signatures are required to call a Senior Officer to account to the Strategic Overview & Scrutiny Committee; 3) 2,000 petition signatures are required to refer the petition to a meeting of Full Council for debate. Further information can be found in Part 4 Section 11 of the Council's Constitution.
